Ok. So I'll try to see whether there could be a regression linked to Debian somewhere causing the error you're seeing.
Again, while I do most of my tests on RHEL/SLES, we have lots of users using MondoRescue on other distros, including Debian.
I'll come back to you when I find something relevant.
