How morphix generates the monitor configs?

Hello,

If i dont use the screen=XxY in the bootmenu, the screen will be
configured to 1024x786.

Is there a way to read the resolution and frequences of the monitor from
hardware or is the best solution to give users with other resolutions
some choices of screen=XxY and for every of this resolutions an
additional choice "lcd" with 60 Hz as frequency in the bootmenu?

The morphix based Ubuntu Livesystem is starting with the maximal
resolution of the monitor (which is the only sharp one when using a
lcd). Are this new features of the new XOrg-Server they use (instead the
old debian stable one) or did they develop a (better?) monitor scanner?

Greetings,
Markus
