Changing configuration of packages with mmaker

Hi *,

what is the canonical way to change the configuration of packages when
installed in a module using mmaker?

Example:
I'm installing "locales" in my mainmod, but when building the module
I want to have specific values for locales/default_environment_locale
and locales/locales_to_be_generated.

Right now I'm thinking about writing a script which gets called via
<patch> in the modules *.xml and chroot's to the builddir, fiddles
around with debconf-communicate and and calls dpkg-reconfigure -- but
maybe there is a more straightforward way?

ps. if it's in the docs, please point me to the right place...
