ebtables on redhat 9 - one more little SOS

the archived did not work this morning, so I thought it was not avaible
anymore. I had to be more patient.

I have three small questions which or not all completly Ebtables linked :
- For kernel configurations, Ebtables features have to be in the Kernel
('y'), as Modules('m') or it does not matter ?
- Is it rigt to execute patches after "make" then "make install" in
ebtables-v2.0.6 and before kernel configuration ?
- Is it possible to compile a Redhat 9 whith straight official 2.4 kernel ?
Should I use another distribution to run Ebtables with a 2.4 kernel ? yes, I
know these two last point are not real real Ebtables issues, it looks more
like linux developpement beginner boring questions, I am sorry fot it.

Ebtables modules don't write installation messages to the log. However,
you should find the message "Ebtables v2.0 registered" in your log.

Only standard kernels, which you can find on www.kernel.org are
supported, and only the latest release.

You are best to use it with the latest 2.4 kernel. See

Ebtables is included in Fedora Core 3, so if you use that distribution
you don't have to recompile the kernel (you only need to download the
user program ebtables). Note that FC3 uses the 2.6 kernel series.

They are to be expected when you use the patch against a kernel that it
wasn't made for. The patch you used is made for 2.4.20, not for the
kernel shipped with redhat 9.
