If i remember it correct, you can use it there (with some trick), so you
can filter on the ethernet layer, but i don't see a reason, why you
should.

What kind of gateway do you have ? Just a Linux machine as gateway to
some kind of provider (cable/DSL/whatever) ? If so, you don't need to
think about ipx, it won't get out (These connections are IP based,
they won't route your ipx traffic).
