Performance analysis?

The folks in my research group have gotten into a few heated discussions 
lately about the performance of threading under Linux.  Mostly people 
believe it's so low-performance as to be practically unusable, which I 
suspect is an opinion held over from the 2.0.x days.

Can anyone point me to any whitepapers or performance analyses showing the 
evolution of Linux threads performance over time?  (Preferably proving 
that NGPT kicks ass of course!)
