We intend to update the toolchain, including gcc, after our upcoming
release, which I hope not to delay too much further.

We're likely to start supporting similar builds of the Owl userland in
development versions (Owl-current) after the release.  I am not sure
which hardening features we'll have enabled by default, though.  We're
likely to avoid those with non-negligible performance impact.

Thank you for your feedback / request.  It is very helpful for us to
know what direction the current and prospective Owl users would like the
project to evolve in.
