The latest status of oprofile gui (what I called "prototype") is as follows : 
both "opcontrol" and "operf" modules are over but the "operf" one is only 
partialy tested with the 0.9.8 release of oprofile. I didn't test anything with 
the new one.
Removing "opcontrol" module and / or making "operf" one the default is very 
easy (just a matter of rebuild) but this has to be tested with the 1.0 
release.
Obviously the end of this week is too short in time because I don't want to 
provide something that was not enough tested

And a simple patch will not be sufficient because the gui has been widely 
modified (port to Qt4 and different architecture with the 2 modules)

Probably because no one was interested in that work.
