>From what I can tell, the Freescale processors E500 and E6500 are supported by the kernel's perf_events infrastructure. However, operf and ocount do not yet recognize these processor types (or any ppc types, for that matter).  With the upcoming oprofile 1.0 release, opcontrol will no longer be available, so none of the ppc processor types will be supported by operf/ocount unless additional work is done.  For those ppc processors already supported by the kernel's perf_events infrastructure, you only need to add a line to libop/op_cpu_type.c:__get_cpu_type_alt_method() to recognize the ppc architecture and then call a ppc-specific "get_cpu_type" function (which you must write -- probably can get the processor model from /proc/cpuinfo).

Please let me know as soon as possible if you want oprofile to continue to support the Freescale processors.  If certain older models are not (and will not) be supported by the perf_events kernel subsystem, please identify those for me so I can remove them from release 1.0.
