I think there are minimal advantages to linking any PCMCIA components
into the kernel unless you have a very specific need to do so, such as
being extremely disk space sensitive.  Having them as modules gives
you the flexibility to update drivers, change driver settings, etc on
the fly.  And with 2.4 kernels, most PCMCIA driver settings are not
available if you link drivers into the kernel.
