Well, that's completely bizarre, and I can't come up with a theory
that makes any sense at all.  I think you'll have to take it up with
someone who knows more about this platform, because it seems like some
sort of weird interaction between the bridge device and the socket
driver.

How about if you shut down and restart the PCMCIA subsystem, rather
than reboot?
