capitals in login name

Hallo,

I'm using shadow-4.0.3 from Slackware 9.1 (and other versions form  
other distributions).

Years ago I used shadow from SuSE 6.x (built 1998). "useradd" from  
this ancient package accepted capitals in the login name (such as "PC- 
01"), the newer "useradd" refuses these capitals.

I have read that Posix says capitals are allowed.

1. might an update to 4.0.4 help?
2. If updating doesn't help (and capitals have to be accepted): can  
you please repair the routine?
