Just a quick note; these may also be grabbed using cvs rdiff. So, for
example, to grab the equivalent of binutils-2.16.1-20041107.patch, one
would do:

  $ cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/gc-linux \
  > rdiff -u -r binutils_2_16_1_1 -r binutils_2_16_1_20041107 \
  > binutils >binutils-2.16.1-20041107.patch

Or, to diff against HEAD, simply s/-r binutls_2_16_1_20041107//
