Hi all,

In the last couple of months there has been a gentoo project ongoing with the
aim of supporting xbox within portage itself. Support basically consists of:

A new xbox profile
Bootable livecds
Adding ebuilds for xbox packages and patches
Irc and mailing lists

The xbox profile lives in the portage tree
at /usr/portage/profiles/xbox-x86-2004.0/. Existing users of gentoo on xbox
can point /etc/make.profile here and pick up all of the new stuff.

A bootable livecd has been compiled by Edgar Hucek and is available at
http://www.xbox-linux.org/down/livecd-pentium3-20040715.iso.gz (md5 at
http://www.xbox-linux.org/down/livecd-pentium3-20040715.iso.gz.md5)

New ebuilds. xbox-sources now exists and contains the latest 2.4 and 2.6
kernels. lirc, xfree86, freevo, etc. should all work with just
'emerge' (they'll even install working xbox config files).

The irc channel is #gentoo-xbox on freenode (www.freenode.org).

To subscribe to the mailing list send an email to
[email protected]. If you are going to use gentoo xbox, or be
filing bugs, it would be useful to be this list :)

What we really need now is for people to try it out so we can hammer out the
bugs. This is public development so if people are lurking with ebuilds for
any other useful xbox things (pyddr?), bug fixes, or whatever, now is the
time to get them added to gentoo. Our aim is to have xbox support working as
well as any other gentoo supported architecture.

Thats all folks!
