Thanks Florian. I do have the line "initrd initrd.splash" in a
linuxboot.cfg but wonder if this is the correct file. I have the latest
version of Xebian and the only linuxboot.cfg I can find is
/boot/linuxboot.cfg. There are four similar files in this folder:
linuxboot.cfg, linuxboot.cfg.fatx_e, linuxboot.cfg.fatx_f,
linuxboot.cfg.hdd_xbe. I tried changing them all and no luck. I also have
no /debian subdir. Are the files located somewhere else?

Don"t forget to redirect the output of the splash command into the
initrd file via "> initrd.splash"
Do you have the following line in your linuxboot.cfg file?
initrd initrd.splash
The initrd file has do live in the same directory where youre kernel
and your linuxboot.cfg lives.
Normaly this is on an FATX partition in the debian subdir.
Greetings
Florian
