My suspicion was correct.  My Versapoint RF
keyboard/mouse works fine with kernel 2.6.12.5 and it
looks like my fatx swap works fine with the 2.6 fatx
driver.

Moving to 2.6 has also solved my alsa snd-intel8x0
modprobe problems although I still can't get alsamixer
to run so I expect that I still have some problems
there.

I was also able to compile lirc with the 2.6 kernel so
getting past the compile problems with 2.4.31.  I
couldn't get irw to work so I couldn't test to see if
my xBox DVD remote was configured correctly so I
probably still have some problems there also.

At least I'm now able to compile mythtv... although it
hasn't finished yet so...
