Kernel 2.6-test9 and ACPI

Hi,

I dont know if this is the right place to ask but ... I think it could 
be right.
I am new to ACPI and try to use it for my new notebook an ACER 
Travelmate 540 LCI.
I have installed Debian Sarge with a 2.6-test9 kernel (the only one that 
works with my keyboard).

The following basic questions I cannot answer with the web or the docs.
1.) after installing  the kernel with enabled ACPI and the acpid I 
wonder if thats all ? Is thats really all ?
2.) I have no thermal zone files in /dev/proc. I thought every notebook 
has something like this, is it malfunction ?
3.) Is it possible to observe ACPI working ? When I look at the files in 
proc only the battery state file seems to change.
4.) The fan is always on. Who is controlling this how ? I have no fan 
file in /proc/fan

Then I encounter something that could be a bug.
When I connect the power supply the system freezese completely. No net, 
key, mouse etc. I can reporduce this on a toshiba sattelite.

Could you out there give me some hints on Documentation sources 
troubleshooting hints ??
