getting acpi to work on 2.6.2

Hello,

I am trying to get ACPI to work on my dell inspiron 8200...i have acpi 
and apm compiled in kernel 2.6.2...when i do echo -n "corresponding 
number" > state in /sys/power all it has is standby, mem, hardisk...so i 
dont know if it works...help would be greatful...
