You didn't say what distro you are using, but if you run your add printer wizard, when it gets to the part where you select your printer, click on the "custom" or "have disk" or "browse" button and browse to the folder where the 4L PPD file is located. Select the file and then continue through the wizard to complete the setup. Warning: I've had nothing but trouble w/ HP printers on various Linux distros even though other people have had no problems. The latest MEPIS distro detects and works with 3 different HP's, including the 4L flawlessly. If you have problems printing, suggest you give MEPIS a try.
