A potential solution would therefore be as follows:

1. Install Wine - According to the web page, "Wine is an Open Source
implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix".

2. Install the Windows version of GhostScript into the Wine environment of
your test system.

3. Install the Windows printer driver for the Sharp AL 1665CS into the Wine
environment of your test system as well.

You should now have an ability to convert PostScript and plain text
application output into a GDI format, which can then be processed by the
host based printing application that drives the AL 1665CS.

As far as scanning goes, you could also see whether the scanning software
could be made to run in the Wine environment as well.

Good luck with your testing. Please let me know whether you encounter any
difficulties with the suggestions outlined above should you decide to test
them in your environment.
