How to make the printer visible?

Hi there,

I installed CUPS and my LJ 1300 PS under Debian 3r2. I can print test pages,
but i dont see the printer in the applications, like KWord or so. I am
completely new to Linux. 

I tried installing printtool, but it garbled up the CUPS installation which I
had to reinstall.

How am I getting there?
