Gutenprint and Epson Pro 7900

Hello, My brother is a Debian developer and he recommended me to use your Gutenprint software in my attempts to use my Epson Pro 7900 printer. The black channel on the printhead is dead, so what I need is some kind of software that can ‘trick’ the printer to be using the green or orange channel for black. Is that possible with your software? If so, should I be installing CUPS to do so?
