A solution to get legacy drivers onto (at least modern) Macs would be to run 
Linux, ideally Ubuntu Server or Ubuntu Core, in a VM, and then proceed as 
described in this tutorial for Windows:

Disadvantage is that running a complete VM needs a lot of resources.
