The latest hearing will give opponents of the demolition their say.

We have established a fax bank at Hallwatch.

Spread the word and join us there.

Salvage contractors have already removed much of the interior trim and
fixtures, most of which will be shipped out of town and sold.

Previously in two June hearings, that board heard from witnesses for
Philadelphia Rittenhouse Investors. You will notice a new contents menu
in our right sidebar, to which we will be adding in coming days.

It is not yet known whether the PPA will appeal. The task force, chaired
by Gary Hack, Dean of UPenn's School of Design, will be making
recommendations to City Council on possible revisions to Philadelphia's
historic district designation process.

See more details at SCRUB's website, UrbanBlight. King is also part of
Convention Hall's diverse tapestry of history.

Convention Hall is still intact, however, save for the ongoing interior
demolition and salvage, and I don't believe the asbestos removal is
completed there yet - that buys a little time. This process will
continue with two additional public forums before the Task Force brings
its suggestions to Philadelphia's City Council. This process will

Contrary to the impression some may get from Inga Saffron's Changing
Skyline column in today's Inquirer, Convention Hall is not by any
measure a lost cause. A legislative assistant representing
Councilman-at-large David Cohen also appeared to voice opposition.

When you rip out groups of buildings wholesale you ruin the overall
historic context of the urban landscape and take away from the soul of
the city. Previously in two June hearings, that board heard from

But when we're talking about obliterating almost entire blocks of
historic and contributing buildings in an historic district, I think we
need to err on the side of preservation.

willing to discuss incorporating these parts of Convention Hall intact
into their proposed, but not yet designed, Center for Advanced
Medicine.
