Hi Jim,
  Those patches are now pushed.  For the check, would there be a way of
making a test program and putting it into the lib directory?

I know that the define is in the library and the test programs link to it,
so you can't fiddle with the define but.. what about a test program that
directly imports the library source files?

Just a thought. It would be nice to have "make check" do a check on it.
