RE: Citirx Printing problems

get any other printing working.  We have tried piping print jobs directly to
lpr and while the jobs do show up in the spool, they fail to ever print.

What I have done is to turn on lpd printing, using /dev/printers/0.  At that
point you should be able to telnet to port 9100 on a thin client, and any
input will be directed out the printer.  Then on your windows box make a new
printer share using the Add Printer wizard.  Create a new port of type
"Standard TCP/IP Port" and point it at the IP of that thin client.  Set the
port to 9100, and finish the wizard.  Then you can print to that printer and
it should arrive at the local printer.

Pros: it works.
Cons: Theres going to be a metric load of printer set up on that server.
	You need static IP for every client with a local printer.

In the future stop buying crappy printers, and buy some JetDirect equipped
lasers.  One per 20 users is fine, and if they bitch then say "it helps
prevent OOS/RSI to get up to the printer"

> on a side note:  During our image creation, we chose the "use samba"
option. When the image booted however, there was no samba process (smbd or
nmbd) running and I could not find any local smb.conf.  What are we missing?

Dunno - you don't need samba in my proposed solution above.
