You can add il keyboard in some simple steps (I suppose :-):
1) use Busybox, dumpkmap to generate an il kmap (in a fat box)
2) reproduce your X working settings in PXES stock (if something is missing)
3) use <PXES>/stock/dist/etc/init.d/functions::keyboard if you need some
additional tweaking

PXES 0.8 can use a compressed (gzip) initrd or a squashed filesystem.
