ok, I managed to get a bit closer to my goal, but I am still
struggling. Here is the technique I used to get to my current state,
which is the closest I've come.

To get the configs I needed I booted the standard PXES CD and opened
the NX cleint and configured it and logged in and out of the nxserver.
I then copied everything from the /root/.nx/ (/tmp/nx/) directory
back to my primary desktop.

I found the <PXES>/stock/extra/nxclient/root directory, inside of
which i erased .nx and .nx.ro.

I created a new directory .nx and copied all the files over that I had
pulled earlier.

Within <PXES>/stock/extra/nxclient/root/.nx/ I erases 'temp' and
'cache-unix-default'. I recreated them both as symlink to the /tmp
directory with the commands:
ln -sf ../../tmp temp
ln -sf ../../tmp cache-unix-default

I did this after discovering there was no way to write in the /root directory.

I then made a new cd and booted it up, it loaded the configuration
info fine and presented me a fully configured login window, which I
was quite pleased with.

However, when I try to log in to the NX server I get an error that
says "can not set up proxy environment", which I assume has something
to do with not being able to set up the cache properly. Can anyone
tell me where I went wrong?

Apparently linking /root/.nx/temp to /tmp/ works fine, but does not
work for /root/.nx/cache-unix-default

Is there anyway to get to the point where I can write in this directory?

I appreciate any help,

Michael
