Paolo, I am letting your point sink in. I think you are right. The distributions are performing updates on the user space additions for the most part and occasionally push a new kernel (obviously not containing RTAI). So when RTAI is applied (roll your own kernel), it results in a Kernel that must be maintained by one's self. If we read this article http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/business/2015/11/05/net-of-insecurity-the-kernel-of-the-argument/ It says basically that Linux Kernel people treat all bugs the same, so security announcements will not be forthcoming from kernel.org. So we all rely on other sources to point out the flaws and what patches/kernels to go and grab.
