Ubuntu 14.04LTS is what I'm using on two machines I use to develop RTAI.

That has been an aim of ours. The extent to which such an objective has 
been met should be substantial, in my experience at least. Author's 
intention is that any compatibility glitches should be minor and trivial 
to solve.
