How to dynamically set task period time / frequency ?

Hi,

is it possible to change the frequency of an rtai task while it is 
running? Due to the fact that two systems, started at the same time, not 
clocked by the same crystal will most likely diverge, I want to adjust 
the frequency from time to time. The base frequency is 5 KHz (200 us), 
but to synchronize to an external hardware the next point in time of the 
task must be e.g. after 199us.

Is there is special procedure or can I use just "int 
rt_task_make_periodic()" within the realtime task?
