What do you mean for "kernel 4.9.51 from a Debian 9 distribution 64 
bit"? Is it the kernel that comes with the distribution or  one 
downloaded from kernel.org?

RTAI works on an Ix-6xxx I have and, for what I know, also on other 
users with the same generation CPU, who helped in fixing problems 
realted to the 6xxx generation.

What happens if you just do "insmod rtai_hal.ko"?
