Yes, that is the Ubuntu accessibility guide.  I didn't find it confusing. 
What did you find confusing about it?  If you don't report problems, they 
don't get fixed.

Yes, Ubuntu and Debian should be able to find your wireless card.  Ubuntu 
includes non-free firmware, so I would try that first.  How old are the 
computers?  I ask because if they're really old, they might no longer be 
supported or might not be able to run the live DVD.
