It sounds like your wireless is disabled by the rfkill switch.
That's probably either a hardware switch on the laptop or a function key
you need to hit to take it out of airplane mode.

It would have also been useful to include your wpa supplicant config for
a lot of errors you might be getting, although apparently not for the
error you did end up getting.
