testing ubuntu mate 16.04, and need assistance with wireless connectivity

Hi all,
When in Vinux, I can simply switch to the unity desktop, and connect my wireless laptop that way.  In Sonay, I can usually do it through the mate pannel itself.  I can't seem to, however, use
the pannel at all in ubuntu mate.  Is there perhaps a way to connect to wireless through the command line, or another gui utility I need to grrab?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
