I highly recommend you read the documentation, e.g., the install guide. 
Many of your questions should be addressed there. We've spent a very 
large amount of time on the documentation in an attempt to make it as 
thorough as possible. If not, please let us know what's missing. See the 
chapter on application configuration for an answer to your question:
