servlet container is started in the background, in devenv use taillogs 
to monitor the logs, with RPMs check logs under /usr/share/ccm/logs/

Again, check the servlet container logs to find out what is going on.
Which tomcat version are you using (4.1.x should work). Try with Resin 
(2.1.x should work) ?
