This 'initialization string' might be the APN setting ('provider name
setting').  Normally you shouldn't need to set this as phones should
remember it for you, if you set it through their menus.  If you're
using a real 'cell modem' then perhaps there's no menus and it's
what you need, though :)

Online I found many references to CGDCONT for APN setting, so
it could be this:

  +CGDCONT=1, "IP", "my.apn.com"

eg: here in China with China Telecom I guess we'd use...
  +CGDCONT=1, "IP", "cmnet"

After setting that, you can use the standard dialing string ATD*99#
(just set *99# as the # to dial) or apparently on Nokias AT+CGDATA
also works.  All GPRS devices should recognise ATD*99#.  The phone
or other device shoul gives you a PPP connection back.
