Thank you. I'm using xfce and the settings options are a bit different:
Settings -> Power Manager 

The dialog box has nothing regarding max charging level or "preserving battery health."

I suppose, I can login via gnome, perform the changes, and then see if this affects it. Once done, is that setting retained?
