I've not been following this thread very closely but I have found on my KVM switch & F44/XFCE4 the
following works - Worth a go.

Ensure that  "cntrl/alt/fx" is available - as
root														
systemctl enable --now [email protected]

Then use Cont/Alt/F2 followed by Cont/Alt/F1 key strokes to wake up the display
