Fragen über Fragen:

Um welches System geht es? Mitgelieferte Software oder selbstcompiliert?
Up-to-date oder veraltet?

Was steht in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0 und
/etc/ppp/options? Hast Du schon versucht, PPPOE_TIMEOUT hochzusetzen?

Bitte auch die "ifconfig -a ; netstat -nr" Ausgabe _vor_ dem
Verbindungsaufbau posten.

Hattest Du pppd (nicht pppoe) mal irgendwie selbst manuell konfiguriert?

Ich kenne die Meldung nur von Hardwareproblemen bzw. Fällen, wo
entweder Neukonfiguration (insbesondere das Löschen der
IP-Konfiguration der DSL Ethernetkarte) es auf magische Weise
beseitigt hat bzw. der Austausch der Karten+Kabel.
