On RH7.2 IA-64 the OS bundled e1000 device driver does not work for the "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adaptor (82540EM Gagabit Controller)". (I install with e100 first, then replace the NIC to e1000 does not work even modprobe or insmod is tried. The introduction of the e1000.o is refused by some reason like non-GPL-ness.) The install using the RH7.2 boot floppy and the network ftp also fails with the e1000 NIC even it is included in the selection menu. With the NIC device driver source code that intel provide as e1000-4.3.15, if it is compiled and installed after the RH7.x OS is installed, then the NIC works fine. I wish that driver (intel e1000-4.3.15) were used from the beginning including the boot floppy for install also. H.M.
