Hi Siddhartha, I only receive the daily digest so this may well have
been answered already.

Certification information for Linux on all HP Integrity servers can be
found here - www.hp.com/go/integritylinux:

Under Certification Matrices click Integrity Servers, then click
rx7640.
	=20
Specifically, RHEL4 U4 is required for the rx7640 - see "Minimum
Supported Red Hat Updates - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 4" link
here - http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/423640-0-0-0-121.html.
	=20
For installation tips, see the Documentation link -> HP
Integrity Essentials Foundation Pack for Linux User's Guide here -
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-7635/5991-7635.pdf
<http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-7635/5991-7635.pdf> .

If you will be installing Oracle on the server let me know, as there are
some specific patches required.
=20
I hope this helps! Thanks! Regards!=20

Hi Tony
=20
Yes, my RHEL is plain and i was doubting that. Can you pls confirm that
HP Itanium rx7640 needs at least U3, or U4, U5. I dont have any access
to such information. What i have is only RHEL Version 4 (Intel Itanium)
and i am failing with that for the last 2 weeks.=20

That looks like you have a plain RHEL4 (no updates) disk. I'm
basing that on the " Loading initrd initrd-2.6.9-5.EL.img...done"
message printed when you were trying to boot. The kernel (and
thus initrd) version is probably plain RHEL4. By U3 the kernel
version had reached 2.6.9-34, and by U5 (current version) it is
2.6.9-51

	Hi Doug
	=20
	Thanks for your response.Appreciate it.
	=20
As you said, i am reinstalling without Smart Setup CD. I would
just want to clarify from you, the RHEL4 that i am using is definitely
for Itanium but i cant figure out if its U4 - that's not mentioned
anywhere. If its only RHEL4 (without an update) will it work?=20
	=20
Further, i also tried to boot into rescue mode from installation
media disk 1 to reinstall the Boot Loader as it was not there. But to my
surprise i could find /sbin/grub-install. Further if i type "fdisk -l"
the output is=20
=09

	Disk /dev/sda: 73.4 GB, 73407865856 bytes

	Units =3D cylinders of 16065 * 512 =3D 8225280 bytes
=09
------------------------------------------------------------------------

	=20
But i created 3 partitions and 2 were created by the SmartSetup
CD. I am very confused as a newbee

You should not need the smart setup CD anymore. You can
let the Red Hat

The /boot filesystem is vfat, not ext2 so e2lablel won'
work. Under
RHEL4 U4 /boot was not mounted by using a label so you
should not need
to label it anyway (under RHEL4 U5 however it does us a
label FYI).=20
	=09
I suggest trying a fresh install and tell the installer
to remove all
existing partitions and create new ones. Let me know if
you run into
		any more issues.
