Dean, just wondering:

Does the problem persist if you combine the two "network" lines into 
one, i.e. use

network --activate --bootproto=static --device=eth0
--gateway=192.168.1.254 --ip=192.168.1.12 --nameserver=75.75.76.76
--netmask=255.255.255.0 --noipv6 --hostname=lamp.hunter.org
