That will work, but it will give you some nasty sounding files. 
converting from one lossy format to another is never good. I'll use an
analogy with color.

think of the original music on the cd as containing Red Green and Blue
colors.  When you make an mp3 out of it, the mp3 is now only Red and
Green, you lose the blue, but it still sounds ok.

If you take the source music and make a ogg file out of it it keeps the
red and the blue. but drops the green.

so if you take a red and green mp3 and convert it to a ogg all you have
left is Red, which is much more noticeable than a 2 color file.

Now that might be a little exaggerated, but you get the idea.  You will
be happier re-ripping your cd's as ogg files, it shouldn't be that hard
since you do own all of your mp3 files right? ;)
