Hardware Monitoring

Does anyone know the best way to be notified if a hard drive on a remote
linux server dies?  I have done considerable freshmeat/sourceforge searching
and it looks like there are plenty of what's up gold like products and heat
sensors, but I am not seeing much for hard drive monitoring or raid
monitoring.
