Where to start with Linux??

OK. It's taken far too long, but I can now see the light........ I want/need to move in the Linux direction. Fairly well versed with the M$ OS offerings. Win3.x, Win9x, NT4.0, Win2K and good ol' DOS. Have been able to avoid XP, so far and don't really want to go there! Please offer your suggestions on the best ways to get started with Linux. I'm under no immediate pressure to put something into production, but want to be ready when the time comes. I fear that time is closing in fast. I'm interested primarily in being able to migrate our various business applications. Email and web services seem to be easy enough with Linux with lots of choices for applications and support. Other applications seem to be running a little behind, but catching up fast. Your suggestions for books, online resources, training offerings, etc. would be most appreciated. HELP ANOTHER USER GET AWAY FROM 'MICROSLOP'! Thanks for any help, Steve
