Failover Inner Workings and How-to

Can anyone point me in the right direction - I need
to locate a very good document which descibes in 
some technical detail the workings and how-to of
LVS failover...

backup = 0.0.0.0
heartbeat = 1
heartbeat_port = 539
keepalive = 6
deadtime = 18

I believe my confusion is in which system
primary or failover requires which settings
in the lvs.cf and do both the PUBLIC IP
and NAT ROUTER IP need to failover or what
and what process or script makes that so,
and how does LVS trigger that?
