Rich,
Do yourself a favor and go out and buy an external serial modem. Linux hates winmodems. There is no configuration with the external modem. It will be automatically recognized. You don't even need a driver. Best Data sells a good one for Linux. Good Luck.

Hi Folks
When I open a web browser and type in a web address I cannot get connected to the internet automatically.
I have set up my provider account details with the internet connection wizard using an existing account that I set up with Windows, so the details are correct.
I can however connect to the internet using wvdial followed by my connection name.
Some details-
IP is freeserve
dist is RedHat 7.3
modem is a lucent winmodem
modem driver is ltmodem from source
I have noticed that if I use the enable at boot setting the computer hangs at startup when it tries to start ppp0, and when I try to activate my connection in network configuration.
Could someone please point me in the right direction ?
I will of course supply any config files that people need.
Thankyou in advance
Rich
