kppp leaks?

I have experienced what appear to be severe memory leaks from kppp in RH9. I initially ran Gnome as my desktop, and was not able to leave kppp running for very long before it was using 50M or more of memory. I had 5 hour session limits with my ISP - I now have 4 hour limits, so I would leave kppp running and simply re-connect as required. After switching to KDE, the situation seemed to improve, but there is still leakage, and kppp is a memory hog anyway. When I do a top sorting by memory usage, kppp starts near the top of the list. This seems ridiculous. What experiences do others have with kppp? Is there any equally convenient alternative? -- Peter B. West <http://www.powerup.com.au/~pbwest/resume.html>
